Camping "Wild" in the New Forest

By reason of a voluntary agreement with the Forestry Commission, D of E is the only organisation able to camp "wild" in the New Forest.

Obviously there are strict controls over this privilege, but since you already have to comply with the agreement included in Section "Informing the Forestry Commission", this option is well worth using.

Note that there are no facilities at "wild camp" sites (i.e. toilets, water, car parking) and they are not signed in any way. Overnight parking is not allowed in Forest Car Parks, however leaders leaving vehicles in a car park near to any wild site may do so provided a copy of the Forestry Commission Permission form is left clearly visible on the dash board.

A list of the recommended sites can be found in the New Forest Information Pack obtainable from the Panel Secretary

In order to book any of the wild sites, you need to complete and return an application form at least six weeks ahead.   Forms available from:   The Forestry Commission, The Queens's House, Lyndhurst,Hampshire,  SO43 7NH    Telephone 02380 283141

Non "Wild" Camping

There are a large number of Forestry Commission and other public and private campsites as well as farmers who will allow Award teams to camp in their fields.  A list of the main sites is printed in our *Information Pack obtainable from the New Forest Expedition Assessor Network Secretary.

Numbers of participants are restricted to a maximum of 7 in each team and the maximum number of teams that can be accepted at any one time is limited.
