The New Forest Expedition Assessor Network is officially recognised by the Duke of Edinburgh's Award in very much the same way as wild country expedition Assessor Networks. It is run entirely by volunteers and its primary function is to provide assessors for teams wishing to complete their qualifying venture in the New Forest area. The Panel also liaises with the Forestry Commission and Local landowners so can also provide advice and information on routes, campsites and any other expedition or assessment queries.

The New Forest is classified as Open country and consequently the following ventures are possible:
- Bronze and Silver Expeditions and training
- Gold Expeditions (November to March inclusive - only for participants with special needs)
If you wish to use a Panel assessor, please give as much notice as possible. Please remember that all assessors are volunteers, the majority with full time day jobs and that consequently, assessments covering working weekdays are very difficult to organise. The greater the notice of assessment that you can give, the better the chances of appointing an assessor for you.
The following information is required to book an assessment
- School/Unit name
- Contact person
- School/Unit address or contact person address
- e-mail address
- home telephone contact
- number of teams under assessment
- if Bronze/Silver/Gold
- the dates of the proposed expedition (see Request an Assessor)
On receipt, the Panel secretary will give the application a number.
The request will then be put on the database and on a mailing list to assessors. When all teams for your school/unit D of E Centre have had assessors appointed, confirmation will be sent . From then on your school/unit lD of E Centre liaises directly with the appointed assessor for each team, sending the assessment fee/s to the New Forest Expedition Assessor Network treasurer before the expedition date.
